It’s connection with the Brontës is subtle – one character meets a man who she nicknames Mr Rochester, another story features a set of sisters with the third one feeling rather ignored. Thematically though, it does feel quite related to the sisters’ work. Either way though this is a beautiful book with such elegant prose. It’s the only trace its author left behind as she too died young. Reading it always leaves me thinking of the scent of a rose
