A Brontë a Day – Day 14: A Girl Walked Into A Book

This book’s author agreed to do a guest post on my site when I was running a Brontë event back in 2016. It was that post which convinced me that I needed to actually make the effort and read Charlotte Brontë’s Shirley and Villette. Pennington’s passion about the importance of these books overcame my own hesitation and I am so grateful that they did. When I finally received this review copy of Pennington’s memoir A Girl Walks Into A Book, my own life was rather hectic and it took me about a year to get to it. It’s a fascinating bibliomemoir about the author’s relationship with the Brontës.

I think it would be fair to say that Pennington’s life has moved on a lot since publication but I really admire the way that Pennington engages with the Brontës first and foremost as writers rather than getting bogged down in the mythology. This really is fan art of the highest distinction.
I agreed to participate in the #ABrontëADay Challenge during May for the A Walk Around the Brontë Table Facebook group. I will also be sharing posts on my Instagram feed.
